2005 METLIFE OLDER VOLUNTEERS ENRICH
AMERICA (OVEA) AWARDS
Need: The annual
MetLife Foundation OVEA Awards, in partnership with the National
Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a), honors the nation’s
older adults each year who give generously to their communities
through volunteerism. Its continuation is dependent upon receiving
the MetLife grant, which in turn is dependent upon a successful
program as well as goodwill for MetLife Foundation among its constituents,
the media, and grass roots America.
The plan:
• |
Build continued program advocacy by the MetLife
Foundation to ensure the funding and continuation of the OVEA
program, as evidenced by media placements nationally and in
each agency city. |
• |
Enlist, educate, and support public relations initiatives
at the local level in the 25 cities where honorees and their
nominating organization were based. |
• |
Produced PR 101 Toolkits for each agency, including custom
media lists |
The results:
• |
Achieved print and broadcast media placements
in a majority of the 25 cities- with attribution to MetLife
Foundation |
• |
Organizational participation increased by 50 agencies over
the 2004 program. |
• |
Reports of a continuation of public funding and a rise in
new volunteers resulting were attributed to localized PR |
• |
Achieved the MetLife Foundation grant for a 2006 event. |
